Audition Information 2009-2010

The Atlanta Metro Youth Flute Choir (formerly known as the Atlanta Music Academy Flute Choir) is pleased to announce auditions for the 2009-10 season.  Auditions will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 13.  (Additional auditions may be scheduled at a later date if necessary.)  Membership in the AMYFC is open to high school students (grades 9-12) as well as college students.  Auditions will be held at Chamblee First United Methodist Church, 4147 Chamblee Dunwoody Road Chamblee, GA  30341 ( http://www.chambleeumc.org/ )

The audition will consist of the major scales required for the preliminary GMEA all-state and district band auditions; one or two solo pieces of the student's choice that best demonstrate his or her technical and lyrical qualities OR the GMEA all-state etude; and two brief sight-reading excerpts.

The membership of the 2008-09 AMA Flute Choir represented fifteen high schools and two colleges in the metro area.  The choir rehearses Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00p.m. at Chamblee First United Methodist Church and presents an average of six performances during the school year.  Special performances have included the National Flute Association Convention (1999 and 2004), the GMEA Conference (2001 and 2003), the Florida Flute Fair (2002, 2005, 2006 and 2009), and the Flute Festival Mid-South (2007).

Rehearsals for the 2009-10 season begin Sunday evening, September 13.  An annual membership fee of $150 is applied towards travel and other flute choir related expenses.  Uniforms are $55 for the girls' dresses and $35 for the boys' vests and bow ties (all made to order).
