The Atlanta Metro Youth Flute Choir began in 1993 as the Atlanta Music Academy Flute Choir, a group of five students selected to perform for the AMA Anniversary Concert. The growing ensemble continued to play for this event for the next five years. In the fall of 1998 the ensemble began rehearsing and performing throughout the school year and became known as the AMA Flute Choir.
